Checking In

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to take a second to say “thanks” for all the warm wishes and salutations. I appreciate it more than you can imagine. I have left Bakwa and am stuck in Delaram at the moment. I promise more 3/8 stories as soon as I can.

As you can imagine, it is difficult to get internet access, particularly when I am taking up space Marines could be using to reach home. However, I know my view of the situation is important as well… so know that I am working 30 hours a day to get my work done for me and for you.

One last note to those that have read stories regarding 3/8’s morale: What I have found is a serious, yet playful, group of Marines. I see no evidence of poor morale whatsoever. If anything, they are itching to take on the enemy and enjoy helping these terribly deprived people. You should all be proud.

Kind Regards,
David Tate

I am a retired Navy Senior Chief now employed withthe Corps of Engineers. I completed a tour in Afghanistan in Janaury of 2008 where I was one of the Corps of engineers assigned to Khost Afghan national army base about one hour away from FOB Salerno. I was responsible for the O&M of Khost ANA, review some road construction and police and border patrol stations. My son is now with the 3/8 Marines, I company. Put a shout out to Bubba Welch. Ask him about his Black lab butch. He also has a street rod hearse and a small arsenal at home
Very few dads and sons have served in the same war theater in the same calendar year. Thanks for the stories and you will be added to the prayers. USMC3/8 our prayer for you is Isaiah 40:31

Great job Dave, good to hear morale is up, often we ask a lot out of are young Marines. My son, Corporal Williams from Florida said he had a chance to chat with you the other day, said you were a pretty cool dude. Remember, when in doubt, go all in.

I just wanted to thank for going into harms way to keep us informed with what’s going on with the 3/8 Marines in Afghanistan.

Stay as safe as you can.
